Review/update coaching plan (repeats)

This activity is to periodically evaluate coaching program creation progress with an eye to any adjustment necessitated by new or altered content.

Format

Conduct a meeting/workshop with participants to present the development, acquire feedback, and refine the plan by adjusting methods/timing/messages. Use new content and insight from participants to ensure coaching approach remains relevant and is role-specific.

Description

This activity is to periodically evaluate coaching program creation and progress with an eye to any adjustment necessitated by new or altered content.

Content change is likely to be specific to changes in planned training. It’s not unusual for changes to arise, and for content to firm up as the underlying project proceeds. Specify how and when coaching will be delivered, how coaches will be trained, and so on.

Program review sessions can be repetitive, but do not trivialize them. They are valuable opportunities to course correct if necessary. Keep them short, but be methodical. Here’s a checklist that could be the basis of an agenda.

  1. Has anything about what the project will deploy changed? (Nothing is too small.)
  2. Has the approach to training changed? Will this increase (or decrease) the need for coaching?
  3. Has anything about the change environment changed?
    • Organization: structure, leadership, personnel
    • Geographic location (office space and team proximity)
    • Tools and toolsets
  4. Have we learned anything about the impacted employees (probably by recent experience or observation) that doesn’t fit with our earlier assumptions?
  5. What are the critical assumptions that support our plan? Are they still as strong and valid as we supposed?
  6. If we were starting fresh, right now, without having a plan or invested time and money into the program, would we choose this path?
