Confirm reporting for performance metrics is on track

This activity is a review and "go" point for finalizing the capabilities to execute on performance metrics. It applies to the change management (adoption) metrics and may also apply to the underlying solution metrics as well.

Format

A status/confirmation review meeting should be satisfactory as a start. If issues with any part of data acquisition or manipulation, or distribution are surfaced, a more robust meeting may be required. This can all be conducted via email thread only if absolutely everything is fully under control.

Description

Like assessment Moves, confirmation Moves are generally the same; only the details of what is being confirmed vary.

This activity is a review and “go” point for finalizing the capabilities to execute on performance metrics. It applies to the change management (adoption) metrics and may also apply to the underlying solution metrics as well. Work to get to this point falls under earlier Moves. Here, to assess readiness, you need to be concerned with 5 aspects of performance measure development.

  1. Certainty that the needed data is not only available and accessible but that its acquisition and conversion (if necessary) has been proven. Whoever will process the data into meaningful metrics has done so on a test set.
  2. The data processing (i.e., the arithmetic) required to create the information has been written and tested on a real test set; it will work for the first live data set. If there is to be trend information created and presented, make sure these are done too.
  3. Report templates that present the metrics are designed to anticipate immediate and ongoing needs (especially trend presentation), and have a limited-effort, foolproof creation/update process for each periodic edition.
  4. All intended recipients have been identified and their contact coordinates catalogued. Having an Active Directory distribution list or lists is a good plan.
  5. A description and explanatory introduction is prepared for recipients to prime them for the first report distribution. Be sure its means of distribution just prior to release of the first report is also under control.

Reports are generally not required until (well) after launch, but target recipients must be confirmed well before that.+

Notes:

+  Knowing, of course, that amendments are likely, particularly as the time lag increases.
